[DEFINITION]

A surgical procedure which
- removes the lamina(the bone in the spine)
- designed to relieve pressure on the spinal cord or nerve root that is being caused by a slipped or herniated disk in the lumbar spine.
This procedure is also used in the treatment of spinal stenosis.
